The summer before third grade Joel’s mom whipped out her first hand-sewn speedo and he joined the Porterville Neptunites. He enjoyed the escape from the heat and the comradery of the relay teams and in time all three Colegrove children were swimming year-round in the Porterville AAU program. Joel’s older brother Brian had a very successful high school water polo career, so Joel followed in his footsteps.
As a freshman, Joel became the captain of the JV team and was moved up to Varsity for the post-season EYL and CIF games. That same year, Joel also joined the swimming and diving team. In his sophomore year Joel made varsity where he established himself as a starter, earned the Most Improved Player award, and 2nd team all EYL. Curt Zimmerman
This guy had baseball and determination in his blood! Curt Zimmerman was born in Orange, CA on March 2, 1973, to Thomas (Tom) and Margaret Zimmerman. Tom had received a handful of letters with offers to sign professionally but turned them down to serve in the Army where he was a POW of the Vietnam War. Around the age of 5 and after his parents divorced, Curt along with his older brother Aaron moved to Porterville to be raised in Margaret’s hometown and be near her family of 12 siblings.
While growing up, playing sports was a daily activity for Curt and his brother. Competing at everything they did, Curt quickly learned he could beat his brother in baseball. When nobody was around to play catch with, you could find Curt on the side yard, throwing a tennis ball against the wall of the house – where he developed his precise control as a pitcher.
Entering high school with his competitors (Farmer, Loflin, Watson, Correa, Fiori, Jones) they set out to DOMINATE their opponents in basketball and baseball. These guys went on to be freshman league champions under Coach Boyer. It was an honor for Curt to get “promoted” by Coach Begin to the varsity team for the final 3 games of the season to gain valuable experience. Unfortunately, Curt’s short stature, lack of “hops”, coupled with breaking his hand during a basketball game - he decided to focus on baseball with a goal to play at the college level. He credits the mentorship received from Coach Begin, Coach Rieger, Coach Miller and players Lance Wallace, Brian Ervin, Brant Brown, Rennie Molezzo, Kit Pearson, David Cox, and Shane Focke for “setting the tone” of Monache baseball. This foundation along with great teammates at Monache led to the 1991 Championship over Bullard.
With little interest from major college programs, Curt stayed local to attend Porterville College and play baseball under Othel Pearson where he focused on playing third base. Unfortunately, Othel was relieved of his position, so Curt transferred to COS in Visalia where he improved his skills under Coach Jody Allen, eventually earning MVP of the Coast Valley Conference. This hard work along with his academics earned Curt the scholarship he was seeking at the University of the Pacific. Curt would continue to excel in baseball and earn his B.S. Degree in Sport Management as he would pursue a dream of owning his own health club.
While at UOP, Curt managed to get injured a few times so he could visit the training room where he met his future wife, Jeannie. They would get married in 1997. Father-in-Law, Al enticed Curt to join his insurance agency for a better career than a gym rat, so he did in 1998.
Curt and Jeannie have three children, Sarina (23), Brett (22) and Chase (16). They enjoy watching their kids play sports, traveling to Cabo, and spending quality time with family.
Curt can be found killing grass on the golf course if he’s not out selling insurance.

Amanda Baker
March 1st 1979 Tom and Gerry Baker welcomed Amanda Isabel Baker to complete the Baker family alongside her 2 older siblings Julie and Tonya. It was early in her childhood it became apparent that Amanda would be a star on and off the court. Her love for basketball began at age 5 when she started playing for the city of Porterville. After years of basketball, she decided to venture out and try soccer, which she enjoyed, but with a conflict in seasons and a passion for the game, she found herself back on the basketball court.
Throughout her adolescent years her multifaceted athletic abilities led her to dabble in softball along with flag football, but ultimately it was back on the court where Amanda thrived. In 7th grade playing for NJB during their inaugural year, the girls team went to the National tournament in L.A. where they won the championship not just that year but the following as well, where Amanda was named MVP both years.
Beginning high school Amanda was a remarkable 3 sport athlete playing volleyball, basketball and softball, that carried out throughout her high school duration. It is thought that she currently holds the school record for most points scored, closing her high school career with an impressive 2,216 points.
Following graduation in 1997 she was offered a full ride scholarship to play Division 1 basketball at Fresno State. As a freshman she was named All WAC Newcomer of the year in 1998. After 3 years with Fresno, she transferred to Cal State University Bakersfield where she completed her senior year in a first-year basketball program with the university, as the second leading scorer in the nation, also while being named Daktronics and Kodiak All American. The program made the first round of the NCAA playoffs that year, being the first new program to do so.
Following her senior year Amanda was offered the opportunity to go to Oregon for a professional basketball camp where she was then offered a position to play professionally overseas in Denmark. Her professional career lasted only a year before she returned home, as she didn’t like being that far from family.
In 2013 Amanda and a few friends decided to create a woman’s flag football team called the TC Villanz. Leading the team as quarterback to a 32-1 record during their time.
The following years were filled with a variety of jobs and activities occupying her time until Amanda decided it was time to fulfil her lifelong dream of being a teacher. Enrolling at COS and then transferring to Fresno State where she graduated in 2022. During that time, Amanda couldn’t shake the itch to be back on the court and it was in 2014 she began officiating. Varying from the tiny tots on the NJB court to the high school level Amanda has spent the last 11 years setting exceptional standards for officials in the area, gaining the upmost respect from players, spectators and officials throughout the valley. Just 2 years into her officiating career she was selected to officiate her first state final at the Golden One Center in Sacramento, where she has since been chosen to go back an astonishing 5 times.
Amanda is currently a special education teacher at her Alma Matter teaching Algebra. Amanda married in 2024 to her best friend Alicia Baker where they look forward to planting roots and enjoying life with their two children Barrett and Korbyn.
