Monache High School Music Department Chair Justin Adams has been named TKMEA (Tulare-Kings Music Educators Association) Outstanding Educator of the Year.
Adams became just the second music director at Monache High in 2001, following Dale Anderson and has guided the Marauders to numerous sweepstakes awards in fall competitions and many superior ratings at CMEA spring music festivals. Under his guidance, the Monache band has performed in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, the Fiesta Bowl Parade, the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl (Grand Champions) in Atlanta, the Independence Day Parade in Fairfax, Virginia, halftime shows for the San Francisco 49ers, and many other local parades and competitions.
While maintaining an active jazz band in the Porterville area, Adams oversees the department’s dual enrollment music program that includes courses through Porterville College as students are able to receive transferable units to colleges and universities.
After serving as president for TKMEA from 2001-03, he has been the treasurer for CMEA Central Section since 2010 while maintaining several professional memberships.
A 1997 graduate of Point Loma Nazarene College, Adams attended the American Band College through Southern Oregon University, where he received his master’s degree in instrumental conducting.
